Anna-Maria Nordström is a singer, composer and arranger based in Gothenburg, Sweden, with roots in Skellefteå. Her music moves between jazz and pop, with clear influences from soul, a strong beat-driven feel and often unexpected harmonic turns. At the heart of her music is a personal expression shaped by strong melodies, honest and poetic lyrics, and carefully crafted arrangements. Following music studies in Sweden and at Berklee College of Music in Boston, Anna-Maria has established herself as a distinctive voice on the Swedish jazz scene. Her debut album Mod (2024) was praised by both Swedish and international press for its nuanced and emotionally charged musical language. In 2027, Anna-Maria will release her second album of original music. The album builds on her artistic voice, with energy, vulnerability and a strong sense of individuality at its core. The music explores emotional, harmonic and melodic tensions within a cohesive and integrated expression with a clear international character. Five of the album’s tracks feature internationally active musician Shadrack Oppong as a guest artist. In recent years, Oppong has toured internationally with Grammy Award-winning artist Judith Hill and brings his distinctive musical voice to the album. “Anna-Maria Nordström has an intimate and honest way of communicating, like a collection of concentrated short stories, and her voice is beautifully supported by a septet with an abundance of horns. Above all, there is a sense of personal originality.” — Bo Bjelvehammar, Lira
